This film is based on the book of the same name by Mark Bowden (This is becoming a habit Smile with tongue out).

The Plot

A Black Hawk HelicopterOctober 3rd 1993, a joint effort by the Army Rangers, Delta Force (American SAS) and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, the aim was to capture two VIPs who were part of the Warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid’s military force in Somalia. To begin with it all goes to plan, but when the extraction comes into effect two black hawks helicopters get shot down. This changes the mission to a search and rescue operation which spreads the forces across the city of Bakara Market Mogadishu. This increases the mission completion time from 1 hour to 18 hours.

The Review

The cast are a familiar bunch, including Ewan McGregor (Star Wars 1 –3, Trainspotting), Eric Bana (The Hulk) and small appearances from Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean 1 – 3). Since I haven’t read the book I cannot comment on how close it is to the material provided.

However I found this an enjoyable film to sit through, had you on the edge of your seat when you started seeing the masses of Somalia people running towards the second crash site as you were genuinely worried about the pilots, and you develop a resentment for a particular enemy soldier.

I would definitely watch this again, wish I had read the book first but I will watch it in the future, the action is awesome and the acting is brilliant.
